We're celebrating the Potomac Curling Club's 50th anniversary,
with our Ninth Annual open format Cherry Blossom Bonspiel
Three games guaranteed, four events
Limited to 32 teams
All meals

Given this bonspiel's theme (Washington's famous cherry trees were a gift from Japan), we will be collecting donations this weekend to support the relief effort in Japan. Michael Fry's employer, National Geographic Society, will match these contributions dollar for dollar; their share will go to a single organization yet to be determined by the Society. Please consider making a donation this weekend. (You will not receive a receipt, but after the spiel MichaeI will follow up via this same email list to let you know how much was collected and, where the funds go.)

For local PCC members only, we've established a few ground rules for this popular bonspiel.

As usual, your best bet for playing in the CB is to join up with two or three non-PCC members and enter as an external team. If that's not an option, here's the drill...

Six of the 32 spots have been guaranteed to local teams (defined as three or more Potomac CC members). There are two ways to get a spot:

1) If your team won an event in the 2010 CB, or won the 1st event in the prior three years, you are guaranteed a spot in the 2011 CB if you have at least *three* original members from that team.

2) Enter the lottery. Shortly after the March 5 entry deadline, all complete, paid entries from local teams will be drawn randomly. The number of spots awarded via lottery will depend on the number of external entries rec'd (max is 26) and the number of teams entered via #1. If your entry is not in Michael's hand by sundown on March 5, lacks the full entry fee, or doesn't list a complete, 4-person lineup, you will not be eligible for the lottery. Likewise, if you enter as an external team and then lose your external teammates, your spot will be filled by a lottery team. Teams that don't get a spot via the lottery will be on a waiting list. (Note that in prior years several teams and/or individuals on the waiting list eventually played in the CB due to withdrawals, illnesses, etc. In short, "losing" the lottery is not a death sentence; there's still a good chance things will change, albeit at the 11th hour.)

Regardless, if you're a local team your first game will be TH night. Friday draws are already filled with out-of-towners.

(Fair warning: If your out-of-town half bails out after the deadline and your replacement players are from Potomac, you'll be bumped in favor of a lottery team.)

We have a preferred hotel for this event, with a $99/night rate.
