2013 Board of Directors Nominations

The Directors of the Potomac Curling Club are responsible for the financial, legal and operational management of the club at its facility at the National Capital Curling Center in Laurel, MD. There are 11 members of the Board serving three-year, staggered terms.

Each year, the members of the Potomac Curling Club are called upon to elect or re-elect three or four members of the Board (possibly more if there has been a resignationduring the year).

Between April 20 and May 3, 2013, the membership will elect four Directors. Three directors will be elected for three year terms, and a fourth director for a one year term.

The Nominating Committee is now soliciting club members to run for the Board of Directors. If you are interested in being a leader of the Club please consider running for these important positions. The Board meets at least once a month throughout the year to ensure that the club is operating effectively.   Get your nomination in no later than March 22nd!

There are several Committees on which you can lead or serve, including:

  • Operations (ice, building)
  • Finance (budget, audit)
  • Events (bonspiels, banquets, member meetings)
  • Training (LTC classes, workshops)
  • Member Services (internal events, awards, pro shop, food & beverage)
  • Technology (website, event broadcasting, office automation)
  • Governance (bylaws, nominations) and Sales & Marketing (Rentals, sponsors)

Your personal expertise, hobbies or areas of interest might not have much to do with curling, but they may be just what your club needs to succeed and thrive. The following are areas that the Board is always in search of:

  • Leadership
  • Competitive experience
  • GNCC / USCA / USOC ties
  • Experience curling away from Potomac

Although many of these assume that you have a great deal of curling experience, that’s not always true or necessary. There are other areas that require expertise as well:

  • Technology
  • Other sports
  • Training / Development
  • Advertising / Marketing
  • Design
  • Management skills

The most important factor in being a successful Board member is enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute.

Members of the club can also assist the Nominating Committee by nominating any member, including themselves, that they think would ably and diligently serve the club and its membership.

If you would like to nominate someone for the Board of Directors, please submit your nomination here.

Board nomination submissions (whether for yourself or another member) requires your name, your e-mail address, the name of the person you are nominating, and a brief statement of why you are making the nomination would be appreciated.

Board nominations must be submitted no later than March 22, 2013.

Each nominee accepting the nomination will be asked to provide a brief biography, picture, and statement of what they believe they will bring to the Board and the club.

Please contact any member of the nominating committee with any questions or concerns.
